Types of lilies
Double lilies
Double lilies have extra petals that create a lush look. They make the vase explode with their intense splendour! Being descended from the Orientals, they have the same distinctive scent, ranging from light to intense.
Oriëntal & Oriental trumpet
The Oriental trumpet are characterised by their exceptionally large flowers. They are real eyecatchers thanks to their beautiful colours and strong stems. They are also known for their delectable fragrance.
Longiflorum
The lilies in this range are characterised by the exclusive large calyx. They work exceptionally well in exclusive arrangements. The cup-shaped lilies in the Longiflorum range also stand out thanks to their timeless look and elegance. Every stem is a classical beauty.
Longiflorum Asiatic
The Longiflorum Asiatics distinguish themselves by being odourless. These lilies are also very elegant, offer a wealth of colours, and are high quality.
Symbolism
Lilies are packed with symbolism. Here are some of the most important meanings:
- • Femininity: in Greek and Roman times brides were given a crown of lilies in the hope of a pure and fertile life;
- • Love: in Victorian days receiving a sweet-scented lily assured you that this was your beloved;
- • Purity: white lilies are often used at weddings as a sign of virginity and purity;
- • Transience: the serene and pure appearance of the lily expresses emotions at times of loss and mourning.
Good to know! A fan of lilies, but worried about stains on your clothing? There are double-flowered lily varieties that have no stamens. So you don’t suffer any yellow marks. These flowers are also much less strongly fragranced.
Meet a lily grower
One of our lily suppliers is the Bredefleur family business. We like buying from them because of the extremely high quality of their lilies. Since the nursery was founded in 1997, they have acquired years of experience of growing lilies. The nursery is now entirely devoted to growing the most high quality and exclusive lilies. They select the best bulbs in order to be able to grow truly stunning lilies. The stems are strong, and always have multiple buds on each stem.
Inspiration
Lilies makes a bouquet stylish. Combine them with delphiniums, helleborus leaves, a blue aster and Angelica gigas (purple angelica). The dark colours contrast beautifully with the soft pink, showing off the lily even better.
Or combine lilies with dried flowers, like in this hanging artwork.
