Sustainability is about finding the right balance between people, planet, profit, and prosperity. By creating a more environmentally friendly and transparent floriculture sector, we help preserve the earth for future generations.
Together with partners throughout the floriculture supply chain, we aim to strengthen the sector’s image and drive meaningful change.

In collaboration with three other innovative companies, we developed a sustainable plastic flower crate. This reusable crate perfectly aligns with our sustainability vision and significantly reduces cardboard waste for our customers. In addition to being eco-friendly, it also improves flower quality.
The crates provide optimal air circulation and excellent protection for the flowers. We are gradually transitioning from cardboard boxes to these flower crates, one product group at a time.
The APP Flowercrate was nominated for the Green-ovation Award 2024. This award, presented by Royal Flora Holland, recognizes the best sustainable innovation in the floriculture sector and was presented during the Trade Fair Aalsmeer. Although we did not win the award, we are proud that this sustainable development received a nomination.

Since January 2023, we have been a member of the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI). This market-driven initiative brings together members of the international floriculture sector to share sustainable initiatives and collaborate on innovative projects that make the entire sector more sustainable.
As we move towards 2025, we continue building on progress in transparency, responsible production and trade, positive impact, and improvements throughout the floriculture supply chain. We are proud to work together with FSI towards a more sustainable world, step by step.

The Barometer “ Duurzame Bloemist” (sustainable florist) quality mark is rapidly gaining momentum in the Netherlands, helping florists demonstrate their commitment to sustainability. This independent certification enables florists to showcase their eco-friendly practices by implementing sustainable operations and offering a range of certified sustainable flowers and plants.
To make sustainable floristry easier, we offer a sustainability dashboard that provides clear insights into your sustainable purchasing habits. At a glance, you can see what percentage of your purchases is sustainable, saving time on administrative tasks while increasing transparency.
The Barometer Duurzame Bloemist (sustainable florist) certification scheme is also available internationally under the name “Sustainable Florist,” featuring a globally recognized logo.
Florists can achieve certification at three levels ; bronze, silver, or gold, based on their percentage of sustainable purchases and operational achievements.
Certification is awarded based on the annual percentage of sustainably purchased flowers, plants, and cut foliage, combined with operational efforts.
Gold: 50% sustainable products, including at least 2% certified as EKO/organic or PlanetProof
Silver: 30% sustainable products, including at least 1% certified as EKO/organic or PlanetProof
Bronze: 15% sustainable products, including at least 0.5% certified as EKO/organic or PlanetProof
Purchasing percentages are calculated based on the total purchase amount in euros, ensuring accurate and fair evaluation.

In the summer of 2023, we upgraded the cooling system at our Rijnsburg cold store to a natural refrigerant-based solution, reducing electricity consumption and environmental impact. This innovative system offers lower energy usage, reduced noise levels, and improved air quality, enhancing both the working environment and flower preservation.
Significantly lower electricity consumption
Reduced environmental footprint through eco-friendly refrigerants
Better flower quality through consistent temperature and improved humidity control, keeping flowers fresher for longer
A six-tonnes component of the system was installed on the roof by crane, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable innovation. This investment helps us deliver better flowers while supporting the planet.

We introduced the “Too Good to Go” label in our web-shop for flowers and plants that remain high quality but have been in stock slightly longer. These products are offered at reduced prices, helping improve stock turnover while providing customers with fresh products at excellent value.
The “Too Good to Go” label is a sustainable solution that helps reduce waste. By giving flowers a second life, we minimize unnecessary disposal. More mature flowers, for example, are perfect for arrangements such as bridal or mourning bouquets, making this concept both practical and environmentally friendly.
