Anemone

The anemone originates from Southern Europe and Asia. It was introduced to the Netherlands some 400 years ago by Carolus Clusius, a key figure in European horticulture. Following its arrival, cultivation rapidly spread throughout Europe, with French growers taking the lead. The name ‘anemone’ is derived from the Greek word ‘anemos’, meaning ‘wind’, due to the flower’s tendency to sway gracefully in the breeze.

The name 'anemone' comes from a Roman myth. According to legend, Zephyr, the god of the wind, fell in love with a nymph at the court of the goddess Flora. Out of jealousy, Flora turned the nymph into a flower — the anemone. While this charming story isn’t factual, it highlights the flower's romantic and delicate character.

The anemone carries powerful symbolism. It represents care, honesty, and expectations. When given as a gift, anemones express the heartfelt message: "I want to be with you." This makes the anemone a perfect flower for meaningful bouquets and special occasions.

Fun Fact: The anemone's name comes from its ability to sway in the wind, earning it the nickname ‘windflower’. Even the slightest breeze can make these delicate blooms dance, adding movement and elegance to your garden or bouquet.
