What is a Chrysanthemum?

A versatile bloom full of colour
Chrysanthemums are beloved cut flowers worldwide. Originally yellow, they’re now available in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and colours. Ideal for any bouquet or floral arrangement, this flower brings charm and variety.

Origin of the Chrysanthemum

A flower with ancient roots
The chrysanthemum originates from China and Japan, where it has been adored for centuries. It arrived in Europe around 1700. Its name comes from Greek: 'chrys' means gold, and 'anthemon' means flower — referring to its original golden colour.

Types of Chrysanthemums

From santini to disbud
There are three main types:

Spray chrysanthemum: 4–12 cm blooms, multiple flowers per stem

Santini: small blooms (<4 cm), perfect for compact arrangements

Disbud (single bloom): one large flower per stem, up to 25 cm in diameter

Colours & symbolism

Seasonal shades with a special meaning
Chrysanthemums come in countless colours: yellow, pink, lilac and lime in spring and summer, warm reds and browns in autumn, and white or deep pink in winter. They symbolise happiness and health — ideal as a gift or for yourself.

Madiba – Flower Power from Africa

Small in size, big in impact
Madiba is a santini brand known for its vivid colour, abundance of blooms, and long vase life. Grown with care at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania by 900+ people. Named after Nelson Mandela, symbolising unity and colour.

Care tips

Long-lasting beauty with minimal effort
Chrysanthemums are strong and reliable. Store them dry in a cooler (2–5°C) and place them in clean water as soon as possible. Remove leaves below the waterline and optionally use flower food. Enjoy them for 10–14 days!
