How are they made?

From seedling to Lava stone
Young plants are first grown by another nursery and then delivered to Kwekerij Zeurniet once they are large enough to be planted onto lava stones. Lava is porous, allowing it to hold moisture and give plants a surface to cling to. Only plants with light-tolerant roots are selected, and it takes at least six months before a Lova plant is ready for sale. These unique products are now available year-round.

Lova Schefflera

The finger tree on Lava
Originally native to Australia, the Schefflera is now cultivated entirely in the Netherlands for Lova. Known as the "finger tree" because of its hand-shaped leaves, this plant produces new foliage continuously. If it becomes too large, simply prune above a node—leaving 3–4 intact so it can regrow.

Lova Diversifolium

The kangaroo fern on stone
Lova Diversifolium is also known as the "kangaroo fern," native to Australia and New Zealand. It spreads with creeping runners and prefers a shady spot indoors. If it grows too wild, you can trim back the runners to about 4 cm to keep the plant compact and healthy. Minimum temperature: 15°C.

Lova Punctatum

Shiny Leaves on Lava
Lova Punctatum grows slowly, forming broad, glossy green leaves with comb-like ends. The vibrant green foliage contrasts beautifully with the dark lava stone. This plant prefers a semi-shaded location indoors and should not be placed in direct sunlight. Minimum temperature: 15°C.

Care tips for Lova plants

Lova plants are easy to care for and only require a little attention:

  • Fill the decorative dish to 2/3 full and ensure there's always a small layer of water.

  • Use rainwater instead of tap water to avoid white lime stains on the stone.

  • Fertilization is generally not needed. From April to October, use ¼ of the standard dosage of liquid houseplant fertilizer, if desired.

  • Place the plant in a bright location, avoiding direct midday sunlight in summer.
